How Files and Apps Slow Down a PC
Background Startup Apps: Many installed applications automatically launch helper services or check for updates in the background when you turn on your PC, consuming CPU and RAM even when you are not actively using them.
Low Storage Space: Storing massive amounts of files until your main C: drive drops below 10% free space causes a noticeable slowdown. Windows needs free contiguous space for virtual memory (page file) and temporary writing operations.
Desktop Clutter: Keeping thousands of individual files or high-resolution icons directly on the desktop causes a minor delay during boot-up or when the desktop refreshes, though this is negligible on modern Solid State Drives (SSDs).
File Indexing: Windows continuously indexes files for search purposes; a massive number of unorganized files means more background indexing activity.
