The 2026 Women’s Hundred reached its climax at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday, August 16, as the Trent Rockets delivered a masterclass to claim their first-ever championship. Entering the final as the clear favorites after winning seven of their eight league matches, the Rockets proved exactly why they were the team to beat this season. They dismantled Sunrisers Leeds with clinical precision, winning by eight wickets with a staggering 46 balls to spare.

A Nightmare Start for the Defending Champions The Sunrisers Leeds, hoping to defend their crown, found themselves under immense pressure from the opening deliveries. While Phoebe Litchfield briefly ignited hopes by hitting a four and a six off Samantha Bates, the momentum was short-lived. The Rockets’ bowling unit, led by Kim Garth, struck early and often. Byrony Smith and Lauren Winfield-Hill were dismissed in consecutive deliveries, and when Litchfield fell shortly after, the Sunrisers were reeling at 24/3.

A brief recovery followed as Annabel Sutherland and Deepti Sharma combined for a 32-run partnership, attempting to stabilize the innings. However, once Deepti was bowled, the floodgates opened. Georgia Adams seized the moment, stumping Sutherland for 25 as she attempted to charge down the ground. A disastrous run-out for Jess Jonassen followed, and the Sunrisers collapsed to a total of just 91, failing to even reach a three-figure score.

The Rockets’ Explosive Response The run chase was less of a contest and more of a victory lap for the Trent Rockets. Openers Sophia Dunkley and Beth Mooney attacked from the start, effectively ending the game within the first 25 balls. Dunkley was particularly aggressive, launching Kate Cross over the deep midwicket boundary and nailing a slog sweep for another maximum.

Mooney joined the fray with back-to-back boundaries, and the pair reached their 50-run partnership in record time. By the time Dunkley was finally dismissed for a quick-fire 41, 69 runs had already been shaved off the target. Despite the late loss of Nat Sciver-Brunt, Mooney (31*) and Ashleigh Gardner comfortably steered the Rockets to the finish line, finishing the game in just 54 balls.

This victory marks a significant milestone for the Trent Rockets, who have been the standout performers of the tournament. Their ability to perform under the bright lights of Lord's confirms their status as the new powerhouse of English domestic women's cricket.
