Cricket fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Test cricket between two of the game’s most storied rivals as Pakistan prepares to face England in a three-match series starting August 19, 2026. This tour is particularly significant as it represents Pakistan's first foray into English Test conditions in six years, following their 1-0 series defeat back in 2020. The matches are scheduled to take place at some of the most iconic venues in the world: Headingley in Leeds, Lord’s in London, and Edgbaston in Birmingham.

England enters this series under a transformative new regime. The appointment of Stephen Fleming as head coach marks a new tactical era for the side, coinciding with Joe Root’s return to full-time Test captaincy. Root has already begun making his mark on the team culture by scrapping the midnight curfew previously imposed by the England Cricket Board, signaling a shift toward a more relaxed yet responsible player environment. On the field, England’s lineup is seeing a shuffle; with Ben Stokes absent, Dan Lawrence is expected to step into the crucial number six role, while the promising Jordan Cox is slated to take the number three spot.

Pakistan, meanwhile, arrives with significant momentum after a successful warm-up fixture against the PCC XI. Chasing a target of 264 on the final day, the visitors secured a seven-wicket victory anchored by a brilliant, unbeaten century from Saud Shakeel, who finished with 100 runs off 147 balls. The bowling department also looks formidable, particularly Mohammad Abbas, who remains a primary threat in English conditions after taking three key wickets in the warm-up game. Despite being benched in recent outings against the West Indies, Abbas’s ability to move the ball in the air makes him the bowler to watch throughout the three Tests.

However, the "Green Shirts" are not without their challenges. The team is currently monitoring the fitness of their captain, Babar Azam, who suffered a hand injury during the warm-up match and took no further part in that game. While the management is optimistic that he will be ready for the opening Test at Headingley, his presence is vital for the stability of the batting order. Similarly, Shan Masood has only recently recovered from a finger fracture suffered in July; although he has resumed practice, he did not bat during the warm-up fixture, leaving some questions about his match readiness.

As both teams finalize their preparations, the series promises a fascinating tactical battle between Fleming’s new-look England and a resilient Pakistan side looking to settle old scores on British soil.
